Korscient has been developing a set of technologies to capture your digital experiences (web pages, e-mails or documents) and make that information easy to find again.

Personal Digital Index - The Product

The Personal Digital Index concept was developed to help you manage the exponential growth of your personal information. It will capture and categorise web pages that you have browsed and add these to an index of all your other digital information (email and files). You can then search everything quickly and efficiently.

You can file your information into categories that you understand. In the future, we'll add a sophisticated auto-categorisation feature to make the process even easier. In the corporate environment you can search other people's knowledge bases (Personal Indexes). Of course, it will only search pieces of the Index that they have explicitly allowed you to see. The Personal Digital Index can search any documents you add to it. Such documents could include excel spreadsheets, word documents, powerpoint presentations as well as Adobe PDF files and Access databases. You can search through your email and attachments to find the things you're interested in. The Personal Digital Index is your personal research tool - it finds things on your computer you know are there but you can't remember where you filed them! It can also alert you if the content of web pages or documents change. At the core of the Personal Digital Index is its ability to seemlessly search across your web pages, email and documents. The Personal Digital Index can ‘remember’ every web page you've visited. These are filed away so that you can search the content any time in the future.

Without the Personal Digital Index, individuals currently have to build their own file trees and try to categorise the information as it arrives or is created. Worse still, each information source has its own way of doing things (directories for files, folders or categories for email and ‘favourites’ for web pages). When retrieving information, users have to remember where they stored their information.



The Personal Digital Index assists in the categorisation of information and provides an efficient cross-data search interface.

The Personal Digital Index is a Peer-to-Peer networking product so you can share information with your friends and colleagues.

Importantly, the Personal Digital Index doesn’t need a huge central server with enormous amounts of computing horsepower - it can run on your own PC.
